Skip Rohde"Baghdad Sketchbook"

"I came to Baghdad in the summer of 2008 to work first for the State Department and later for the Corps of Engineers. I try to do some sort of sketching as often as I can. Everyday experience here is different than it is in the United States. The things I'm called to draw and paint reflect my every-day reality: MRAPs, T-walls, soldiers, dust storms, and more.

These works are small-scale sketches in a variety of media. I use pencil on paper, watercolor, and even oil on small pads of canvas. They are observations, really: visual notes and descriptions of things I've encountered."

This series is still ongoing, and new images will be added periodically.
