In the fall of 1999, my wife and I travelled in Europe. We started in Edinburgh, Scotland, went to the Lake District in northwest England, then down to London for a month. Then it was off to the Netherlands, central Germany, Prague, and southern Germany. Next, we headed over the Alps to northern Italy. Finally, we drove around the Mediteranean coast to Rota, Spain, and flew back to the United States. Originally we were going to stay a year, but after being on the road for a few months, we changed our minds and returned to the US before Christmas. The trip was one of the highlights of our lives. Travel is an intense experience. Highs and lows are greatly amplified. All in all, it was tremendous. Here are the accounts of our adventures and misadventures, written pretty much as they happened, and emailed to our friends and family.
