"A portrait is a picture of a person with something wrong with the mouth." - John Singer Sargent
Portraits are hard. Even John Singer Sargent, one of the greatest portrait artists of all time, had his difficulties. You're trying to get the basic shape of the face right, get the eyes in the correct places and shaped like the real ones, having to deal with a nose in the middle of everything, and then a mouth that is always moving. No wonder many artists don't want to do portraits.
But you can learn skills and techniques that will result in good portrait drawings. In this 2-day workshop, you will learn about the structure of the head, what key features to look for, capturing an expression, and getting a good image down on paper. You'll get plenty of practice during both days in the studio. You'll leave with a much better ability to draw portraits than you ever thought you could do. And you'll have a great time doing it!
I've taught drawing and painting in schools, private settings, and workshops over many years. I'll work closely with you to develop your unique capabilities.
This workshop will go from 12-4 pm on both Saturday and Sunday, October 14-15, 2017. It will be in my studio at 2004 Riverside Drive, in The Mill at Riverside (formerly the Riverside Business Park) in Woodfin. Directions will be provided upon registration. Class size is limited to 8, so register early.
